Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and [Company legal name] (“Hostrivia”, “we”, “us”) about your use of hostrivia.com and everything on it. Creating an account, or joining a game, means you accept them.

1. Who can use Hostrivia

To create a host account you must be at least [minimum account age] and able to enter into a contract where you live. You are responsible for everything done under your account, so keep your password to yourself and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has it.

Players do not need an account. Anyone with the room code can join the room, which means the room code is the whole of the security — share it with the room, not with the internet.

2. Your account

Give us a real email address you can receive mail at; we need it to confirm your account and to reach you about your account. Do not create an account for someone else without their say-so, and do not share one login between people who should have their own.

You can close your account at any time. Ask from your profile or by contacting support, and we will delete it and the content in it.

3. Plans, game credits and AI

Every game is playable on every plan. The plans differ in how much you can do:

• Free. 3 gameplay credits per calendar month. Starting a standalone game uses 1 credit; a whole Multi-Game Quiz uses 1 credit no matter how many games are in it. A free Multi-Game Quiz is limited to 2 rounds per included game. Free accounts do not have AI board or puzzle generation.
• Paid. Unlimited gameplay and AI generation, subject to fair-use limits we will publish before they apply to anyone.

Refreshing the page, reconnecting, or restoring a game you already started does not cost another credit. Credits reset at the start of each calendar month and do not roll over.

During the current free beta these limits do not apply: every account has unlimited game starts and no round cap, and AI board and puzzle generation is available to everyone, capped at 5 generations per account per calendar month.

You can choose Paid when you sign up or upgrade later. Choosing Paid records your intent; Paid features switch on only once payment is actually confirmed by our payment provider. Billing is not live yet — see the refunds and cancellation page for how it will work.

Hostrivia is in early access. Features can change, and we may add, alter or withdraw parts of the product. If we withdraw something you are paying for, see refunds and cancellation.

4. Your content stays yours

Questions, prompts, boards, saved setups and quiz-night branding you create are yours. You keep every right in them. You give us only the permission we need to run the service — to store your content, and to display it on the screens and phones in your own game — and that permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

You are responsible for the content you present. If you upload or generate it, you are confirming you have the right to use it and that it does not break the Acceptable Use Policy. That includes the custom packs you put in front of a room: a game night is a public performance, and what appears on the big screen is yours, not ours.

Feedback and suggestions you send us are a different matter: we may act on them freely and without owing you anything for them.

5. AI-generated content

When you ask for an AI-generated pack, your prompt goes to our AI provider and a pack comes back. Generated questions can be wrong, dated or oddly worded — read a generated pack before you put it in front of a room. Do not put confidential information in a prompt. Outside the free beta, AI generation is a Paid feature; it is subject to cost-protection limits at all times.

6. Our content

The Hostrivia software, the site, the name, the logo and the question packs we supply are ours or our licensors'. You may use them to run game nights, including commercially at your own venue. You may not copy, resell, redistribute or scrape our packs, reverse-engineer the service, or present it as your own product.

7. Rules of use

The Acceptable Use Policy is part of these terms. In short: no harassment, no hate, nothing illegal, nothing that breaks the service or somebody else's use of it. We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks it.

8. NoFilter is 18+

NoFilter is written for adults and its prompts are deliberately crude. By starting a NoFilter game you confirm that everyone playing is 18 or older, and as the host you are responsible for the room you are running it in. Players are asked to confirm their age on their own phone before they see a prompt.

9. Availability

We want the service up when your quiz night starts, and we work at that. We do not promise it: Hostrivia is provided as it is, without a guaranteed uptime, and we may take it down for maintenance. Have a backup plan for anything that really cannot fail.

10. Suspension and termination

You can stop using Hostrivia at any time, and close your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, that is being used to harm someone, or that we are required to act on by law. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first — except where the breach is serious enough that we cannot.

If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, and you had paid for time you did not get, see refunds and cancellation.

11. Liability

To the extent the law allows, Hostrivia is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost data, or a game night that did not go to plan, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or [minimum liability cap] if you have paid us nothing). Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury or fraud, and nothing here removes the rights a consumer has under the law where they live.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we make a material change we will update the date at the top and tell account holders by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Hostrivia after that means you accept the new version. If you do not, close your account.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [Jurisdiction], and the courts of [Jurisdiction] have jurisdiction over any dispute, without taking away any right you have to bring a claim where you live.
