Refunds & Cancellation

Last updated: 2 September 2026

Hostrivia is currently a free beta. Every feature is available to every account at no charge, with AI board generation limited to 5 generations per account per calendar month. Nothing is charged and no card details are collected. A paid plan may be introduced later; if it is, it will be announced on the site, with prices, before anyone is charged. This page describes how billing will work if that happens, and nothing on it applies until then.

How a subscription will work

  • The Free plan is free, permanently. It gives every account 3 gameplay credits per calendar month, and every game is playable on it.
  • The Paid plan will be a subscription, billed in advance for each period through our payment provider. The provider handles the payment, and we never see or store your card details.
  • Paid features switch on only after the payment provider confirms the payment to us. Coming back from a checkout page is not enough on its own — if the confirmation has not arrived yet, give it a minute, and tell us if it does not appear.
  • The price, the period, and the currency will be shown clearly before you confirm, and you will get a receipt by email for each payment.

Cancelling

  • You can cancel at any time. There is no minimum term and no cancellation fee.
  • Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep Paid features until then, and you are not billed again.
  • When the period ends, the account moves back to Free. It is not closed, and nothing you created is deleted — your packs, boards and saved setups are all still there. Free plan limits apply again from that point: 3 gameplay credits per calendar month, and no AI generation.
  • If you want the account itself gone rather than just the subscription, ask from your profile or contact support and we will delete it.

Refunds

Our approach is simple: if you paid for something you did not get, we refund it.

  • Something went wrong on our side. An outage that cost you a quiz night, a Paid feature that did not work, or a charge for a period we could not deliver — tell us and we will refund it, in full or in part depending on what you lost.
  • Charged by mistake. A duplicate charge, a charge after you cancelled, or a charge you did not authorise gets refunded in full.
  • Changed your mind. Contact us within [cooling-off period] of a payment and we will refund it, provided the plan has gone largely unused for that period. Consumers in some countries have a statutory right to cancel a recent purchase; where you have that right, it applies in addition to this policy and nothing here reduces it.
  • Part-used periods. Beyond the cases above, we do not usually refund the unused remainder of a period you chose to cancel partway through — you keep the features until it ends. If your circumstances are unusual, ask anyway.

Refunds go back to the original payment method through our payment provider. How long it takes to appear is up to your bank, and is usually a few business days.

If we close a Paid account

If we suspend or close a paid account for a reason that is not your fault, we refund the time you paid for and did not get. If we close it because of a serious breach of the Terms of Service or the Acceptable Use Policy, we do not.

Price and plan changes

If we change the price of a plan you are on, we will tell you by email before it takes effect and you will have the chance to cancel before being billed at the new price. If we remove a Paid feature you were relying on, tell us — that is a refund conversation, not a shrug.

Asking for a refund

Open a request at /support if you have an account, or email [email protected]. Include the email address on the account and roughly when the charge happened. We aim to reply within 2 business days.

Talk to us before disputing a charge with your bank. A chargeback usually takes far longer than us simply refunding it, and it can lock the account while the dispute is open.
